Tenet

Christopher Nolan wrote and directed the 2020 science fiction action thriller Tenet, which he also produced alongside Emma Thomas. John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh star in the film, which is a co-production between the UK and the US. The storey follows a secret spy who learns to alter time in order to stop a potential attack that threatens to wipe out the present world.

After deliberating about Tenet’s central ideas for over a decade, Nolan spent more than five years writing the screenplay. Pre-production began in late 2018, casting commenced in March 2019, and the main filming did take place in Denmark, Estonia, India, Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom, as well as the United States for six months from May to November. Hoyte van Hoytema, the cinematographer, used 65micrometres and IMAX film. There were almost a hundred ships as well as thousands of extras involved.

Tenet was released in IMAX, 35 mm, and 70 mm inside the United Kingdom on August 26, 2020, and in the United States on September 3, 2020, after being postponed three times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was the first Hollywood tent-pole to debut in cinemas following the pandemic shutdown, generating $363 million globally, putting it the fifth-highest-grossing picture of 2020. The movie garnered mostly good reviews from reviewers and was nominated for Best Visual Effects and Best Production Design at the 93rd Academy Awards.

The narrative of the movie centres upon reversing the entropy of objects and people, which results in temporal reversibility. Although Tenet makes references to physics concepts such as annihilation, the second law of thermodynamics, Maxwell’s demon, the grandfather paradox, and Feynman and Wheeler’s concept of a one-electron universe, Christopher Nolan stated in the film’s press notes, “we’re not going to make any case for this being scientifically accurate.”
