The never-ending tale of S S Rajamouli’s RRR and its several delayed release dates has finally reached a boiling point. Producer Jayantilal Gada, who controls the North Indians rights as well as all RRR digital and satellite rights, is reportedly fed up with delays and demands Rajamouli to consent to an OTT distribution.
The specifics of the Rajamouli-Gada dispute are revealed by a reliable source. “See, the pandemic situation is not likely to ebb in the near future. Theatre attendance is now at its lowest ever. Even Akshay Kumar couldn’t pull the audience back out of their homes into movie theatres with Bell Bottom. Given the grim scenario, Rajamouli’s stubborn stance, that he will only release RRR in cinemas, has begun to sound unreasonable to Jayantilal Gada who has high stakes in the product.”
Although Rajamouli is adamant about releasing his ostensibly epic where that belongs, Gada, who is fully within his rights, is as adamant that the picture be released electronically, now that the largest of them are doing it, many feel it’s the only way.
