Special 26

Special 26 is indeed a 2013 Bollywood Hindi-language heist movie directed by Neeraj Pandey as well as produced by Shital Bhatia and Kumar Mangat Pathak under Friday Filmworks and Wide Frame Pictures in conjunction with Viacom18 Motion Pictures. It’s modelled on the robbery at the Sydney Opera House in 1987, in which a gang masquerading as CBI officials carried out an income tax raid on a jeweller in Bombay. Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpayee, Kajal Aggarwal, Jimmy Sheirgill, Anupam Kher, and Divya Dutta lead an ensemble cast.

Special 26 was released globally on February 8, 2013, to tremendous critical praise and was a critical and economic triumph upon its initial release.

It made $1.26 billion worldwide on a budget of $390 million, making it the tenth highest-grossing Bollywood movie of the year. The picture is regarded as one of the best of the year.

In 2018, Thaanaa Serndha Koottam, a Tamil remake of Special 26, was released.

M. M. Keeravani, better known by his stage as M. M. Kreem, created the soundtrack album for Special 26. Himesh Reshammiya was brought in as a guest composer for the song “Gore Mukhde Pe Zulfen,” written by Shabbir Ahmed, while Irshad Kamil wrote the remainder of the songs. All of the songs were recorded in Hyderabad’s Prasad Film Laboratories and Mumbai’s Silver Harmony. T-Series purchased the music rights, and the album was launched on January 9, 2013, during a promotional event hosted at the PVR in Mumbai. Surinder Sodhi is the composer of the movie’s background score.

The movie is based on the theft of a jewellery store in Bombay’s Opera House on March 19, 1987, when 26 individuals acting as income tax officers stormed the business.

The CBI officer is played by Manoj Bajpai, while Anupam Kher plays a key part. Ajay Singh’s love interest is played by Kajal Aggarwal in a specifically created part.

According to reports, Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan were considered for the main role. Because he was Pandey’s first pick, it went to Akshay Kumar. Kajal Aggarwal is portraying a schoolteacher in the film. For Special Chabbis, Akshay Kumar cut his remuneration in half.

Anupama Chopra, writing for Hindustan Times, awarded it 3.5 stars out of 5 stars, complimenting its attention to detail, character development, the plot’s gradual but clear feeling of immediacy and urgency, and the complex cat-and-mouse pursuit between the conmen and the cops. She criticises the climax’s unconvincing nature, as well as the needless insertion of the love aspect in an otherwise riveting screenplay.
