8 South films hitting theatres this week: Jailer 2 to Ranabaali
From Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 and Vijay Deverakonda's Ranabaali to a folk biopic, here are the South releases arriving October 15-17.

The headline events
South Indian cinema has loaded a single mid-week window with eight releases. Between October 15 and October 17, filmgoers can move from a Rajinikanth sequel to a Vijay Deverakonda period drama, with smaller titles in between.
Jailer 2, the Tamil action comedy directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, opens the window on October 15. Rajinikanth returns as retired officer “Tiger” Muthuvel Pandian, whose quiet life is broken when a syndicate comes looking for revenge over Varma’s death. The cast is stacked: SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan, Yogi Babu and Ramya Krishnan, plus cameos from Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Vijay Sethupathi and Hrithik Roshan.
Ranabaali arrives the next day. Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the Telugu period action drama stars Vijay Deverakonda as Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali, a Rayalaseema warrior whose village life is shattered by the Great Madras Famine of 1876-1878 and the greed of colonial rulers. Rashmika Mandanna plays Jayamma, and the supporting cast includes Arnold Vosloo.
The rest of the slate
- Garividi Lakshmi (Telugu, October 17) is a biographical musical drama about a North Andhra village woman whose Burrakatha performances win her fame—and then make her a target of exploitation when filmmakers use her voice without credit.
- Crazy Kalyanam (Telugu, October 16) is a rural rom-com about a woman who wants a partner willing to share household work, and the chaos that begins when an unpredictable prospective son-in-law enters the picture.
- Street Fighter (Tamil and Telugu dubs, October 16) brings the 1993-set video-game story to the big screen with Noah Centineo as Ryu and Andrew Koji as Ken, along with Vidyut Jammwal and Jason Momoa.
- Drones (Tamil, October 16) is a fantasy horror comedy connecting a sleepwalking student, a miniature artist, an ancient witch and a dollhouse of trapped souls.
- Thaytha (Kannada, October 16) starts as a college romance before turning into a nightmare that a group of friends must escape.
- Entha Chitram Katha (Telugu, October 16) is an action drama about a portrait artist, a college student’s sketch and the way karma pulls their lives together.
How to pick
If you are choosing by star power, Jailer 2 and Ranabaali are the anchors of the week. Garividi Lakshmi is the one for folk music and biographical depth, while Crazy Kalyanam is the straightforward lighter watch. Genre fans can split between Drones, Thaytha and the Street Fighter dubs. Because Jailer 2 opens a day early, an October 15 show can pair neatly with any of the October 16 releases for a double bill.
The lineup is a reminder of how wide the South Indian theatrical week has become: one calendar, three languages, a dubbed Hollywood title and enough genre variety to fill different audiences.
