DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek is indeed a media series based primarily on William Steig’s 1990 picture book of the same title. Shrek (2001), Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek the Third (2007), as well as Shrek Forever After (2010) are the four computer-animated movies within the franchise, with such a fifth feature inside the works. 4-D, a short 4-D movie based on a theme park attraction, was released in 2003.

Two television specials have also been made the Halls (2007) for Christmas as well as Scared Shrekless (2010) for Halloween. Puss in Boots, a spin-off movie, was released in October 2011, while a stage musical version from 2008 ran on Broadway for further than a year.

The series revolves around Shrek, a grumpy but good-hearted ogre who reluctantly undertakes a quest to save a princess, which leads to his making friends and embarking on several adventures in a fairy tale world.

The key Shrek characters were characterised as “brilliantly realised” in May 2010 by The New York Times, who added that “almost a decade after that Shrek movie, they remained as vibrant and compelling fusions of image, personality, and voice like any characters inside the history of animation.” The series was a commercial success, becoming the 17th highest-grossing movie franchise and the second-highest-grossing animated movie of all history. The alone ogre is enraged when Lord Farquaad orders fairy tale creatures to settle in his swamp. He befriends Donkey, a talking donkey, as well as the two set off to see Farquaad.

Following Antz (1998) and Chicken Run (2001), It is the third DreamWorks animated picture in which Harry Gregson-Williams collaborates with John Powell on the soundtrack (2000). Powell was passed up for following Shrek movies with Gregson-Williams owing to such a scheduling constraint. Nick Wallace and Slamm Andrews recorded the score at Abbey Road Studios, well with the latter mixing this at Media Ventures and Patricia Sullivan-Fourstar handling mastering.
