Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures have given the green light to press forward with the second episode of Scream, following the box office success of the last film. The film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
Working with such a beautiful and creative family of creators – and in the lineage, Wes and Kevin so masterfully constructed – has been the delight of a lifetime, and we’re so pleased to bring the next chapter in the Scream narrative to life,” Radio Silence said in a statement to Deadline.
According to sources, both Paramount and Spyglass were fast to gather all stakeholders and sign off on bringing both Radio Silence and Project X back after the film’s recent opening weekend success.
Scream is a long-running genre-defying horror franchise that has spawned four feature pictures, all directed by the late Wes Craven: Scream, Scream 2, Scream 3, and Scream 4. The Scream franchise went on to make more than $600 million at the box office throughout the world. Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4 were all written by Williamson.
Scream received a Rotten Tomatoes Certified Fresh rating and recently exceeded the $100 million global box office mark.
Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar joined Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Neve Campbell inside the horror movie directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin as well as Tyler Gillett and written by Vanderbilt & Busick from characters created by Williamson.
The script is co-written by James Vanderbilt as well as Guy Busick. Producers include Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak of Project X Entertainment. Along with Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre of Spyglass, creator Kevin Williamson and the third member of Radio Silence, Chad Villella, executive produce.
