Vijay Deverakonda Leads a 5-Language Rebellion in Ranabaali

The trailer for Ranabaali has landed, and it gives Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna a stage far bigger than a standard star vehicle. Set in 19th-century Rayalaseema, the nearly four-minute cut moves from a folk prophecy to a famine, and then to open revolt.

A folklore-born fighter

The opening frames introduce a child born in a cave whose destiny is wrapped in prophecy. That mythic note follows Deverakonda’s Ranabaali into rural villages where grain is being moved while locals starve under colonial rule. The Great Famine of 1876–1878 becomes the wound that drives the rebellion, not just a background detail.

The key players

  • Vijay Deverakonda plays Ranabaali, the villager who turns anger into an armed uprising.
  • Rashmika Mandanna plays Jayamma, his wife, who is visibly pregnant and still joins the resistance.
  • Arnold Vosloo plays Sir Theodore Hector, the colonial antagonist.
  • Rahul Sankrityan directs, reuniting with Deverakonda after Taxiwaala (2018).
  • Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar produce under Mythri Movie Makers, with T-Series Films.
  • Ajay–Atul compose the music.

Jayamma is not a spectator

Rashmika’s role is the trailer’s clearest emotional counterweight. She appears in domestic moments rooted in Rayalaseema tradition, then later stands with villagers as they confront British forces while pregnant. The choice makes the uprising feel shared, which could broaden the film’s appeal beyond action fans.

An action drama with a folkloric edge

The closing stretch leans into guerrilla-style combat and traditional weapons, before Deverakonda appears amid sacred ash and turmeric. That visual grammar ties the armed revolt back to regional culture, giving the period action a distinct texture instead of a generic colonial battle.

Ranabaali is planned as a five-language pan-India release — Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam — and is set to open in cinemas worldwide on October 16, 2026.
