Ramayana Part One hits Rs 30 cr in pre-Diwali advance sales
Ramayana: Part One has clocked Rs 30 crore in advance sales, but pre-Diwali timing and dubbed-version competition are slowing the pace ahead of its Thursday release.

Ramayana: Part One is closing its advance-booking window with Rs 30 crore in pre-sales, but the bigger story is not the number on the board — it is the speed at which tickets are moving. The Ranbir Kapoor and Yash epic enters its final day of advance sales with healthy absolute demand and a clear Pre-Diwali drag.
The numbers behind the Rs 30 crore
The Hindi version of the film has sold around Rs 27 crore across the five-day advance window, with roughly Rs 13 crore nett of that for opening day alone. Dubbed South Indian versions add another Rs 3.50 crore nett for the first day, with more than half of that coming from the Kannada version.
National multiplex chains remain the engine of the advance. They have moved about 198,000 tickets so far, but the pace has slipped below where trade watchers expected: only 23,000 tickets were added yesterday, against an ideal daily run of 40,000 to 50,000. Unless the final day accelerates sharply, the chains could close around 325,000 tickets for day one.
- Hindi five-day advance: around Rs 27 crore nett.
- Hindi opening day: around Rs 13 crore nett.
- Dubbed versions, first day: about Rs 3.50 crore nett.
- National chains: 198,000 tickets sold; 23,000 added yesterday.
Why the pace is slower than the scale
For a film of this size, the advance should be moving faster. The opening-day figures are healthy, but the final stretch has not caught the acceleration trade watchers wanted to see. The reason is release timing: the days before Diwali are traditionally a slow corridor for the Hindi box office, especially in northern states, and the effect is deepest in smaller centres.
That pattern shows up clearly in the data. The current advance is being driven by larger metro markets, while smaller centres, which should be natural strongholds for a devotional subject, are lagging. Ramayana: Part One is exactly the kind of broad, faith-led film that would normally over-index in these towns, so the Pre-Diwali timing is muting one of its biggest advantages.
In the South, a different issue is at play. Dubbed versions, especially the Kannada version in Karnataka, have taken up substantial showcasing even in premium multiplexes in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. That is pulling some of the Hindi version’s potential away; Pinkvilla estimates the Hindi version could lose around Rs 5 crore nett to the dubbed editions.
What to watch on opening day
The trade’s current expectation is an opening day of more than Rs 50 crore nett, with a chance of reaching Rs 60 crore nett, depending on how strongly walk-up audiences turn up. The film releases on a Thursday, and the big unknown is whether family viewers choose to step out during Pre-Diwali festivities.
For fans, the practical takeaway is straightforward: if you want a good seat in the premium metro screens that are moving fastest, book sooner rather than later. At the same time, the advance number alone should not be read as the final verdict. Devotional films are known for late surges, and once Diwali passes, the film is expected to get a multi-day boost that could carry the weekdays at elevated levels.
