Ramayana Hailed by Rajamouli, Vanga, Shetty and Atlee

SS Rajamouli, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Rishab Shetty and Atlee praise Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, with Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash earning standout mentions.

Ramayana earns rare praise from Rajamouli, Vanga, Atlee

Ramayana has done something few event films manage: it has brought Indian cinema’s most demanding directors out as fans. As the film hit screens this week, SS Rajamouli, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Rishab Shetty and Atlee all shared public reactions, and their praise was unusually specific.

A rare chorus from the director’s circle

Rajamouli, known for his own epic storytelling, called the film’s scale and big-screen visuals ‘spectacular.’ He singled out Ranbir Kapoor’s Lord Rama as ‘serene yet magnificent,’ especially from the Vanavasam portions onward. Yash, he wrote, brings a ‘menacing presence’ to Ravana, while Sai Pallavi is ‘graceful’ as Sita.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga kept his message short but emphatic: Ranbir and Yash ‘nailed it bone-deep,’ and he said he has never known a producer to be ‘this committed.’ Rishab Shetty went deeper, saying the team had done ‘total justice’ to the timeless epic. He praised Ranbir’s calm and dignity, Yash’s intensity, and Sai Pallavi’s emotional depth, adding that Ravi Dubey is a wonderful casting choice as Lakshmana.

What the filmmakers loved

  • Rajamouli: Scale, visuals, Ranbir’s serenity, Yash’s menace and Sai Pallavi’s grace.
  • Sandeep Reddy Vanga: Ranbir and Yash’s commanding screen presence, producer Namit Malhotra’s commitment.
  • Rishab Shetty: Justice to the epic, sincere performances and pride in Yash’s Ravana.
  • Atlee: Visual grandeur rooted in Indian culture, and a film to preserve for family.
  • Dil Raju and Mahesh Babu: A visual treat, soulful music and childhood stories coming alive.

Why the praise matters

This is not routine promotional noise. When directors who are themselves building large-scale Indian epics line up to praise a project, it signals that Ramayana is being judged on craft as much as star power. Atlee described it as ‘more than just a film’ and an ‘extraordinary cinematic experience,’ saying he wants to watch it with his children and keep it in his personal library.

Producer Dil Raju called it a visual treat and said Yash’s Ravana takes the narrative to another level. The music by AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer, he added, supports compelling storytelling. Mahesh Babu’s note captured the emotional pull: the stories fans grew up hearing are now coming alive on the big screen, and that, he wrote, makes him happy.

What to do about it

If you are planning to watch, the directors’ common thread is clear: this is a big-screen film. Rajamouli praised the scale and visuals, while Atlee highlighted the collective cinematic experience. The early word also suggests the film’s climactic stretch is a talking point, with Rajamouli saying he loved the pre-climax and climax.

For fans of Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, the reaction raises expectations for their next choices. Ranbir’s turn as Lord Rama is being framed as a performance built on stillness and dignity, while Yash’s Ravana is drawing attention for its intensity.
