The Rangasthalam team is formally back. Makers confirm Ram Charan and Sukumar's RC17 with an announcement poster and a pooja ceremony video.

Ram Charan and Sukumar confirm RC17 with pooja video

The wait is over. Ram Charan and director Sukumar have made their next collaboration official. On October 31, the makers confirmed the project, tentatively titled RC17, with an announcement poster and a live video from the film’s pooja ceremony, the first formal step before production begins.

Back together after Rangasthalam

RC17 is the first time the actor and director have worked together since Rangasthalam (2018). That rural drama, set in 1980s Andhra Pradesh, became a major commercial success and earned attention for Ram Charan’s performance as Chitti Babu, a hearing-impaired village mechanic. Samantha Ruth Prabhu co-starred, and Devi Sri Prasad composed the music. The new film is being produced by Mythri Movie Makers in association with Sukumar Writings, the same production house that backed Rangasthalam.

The reunion, then, is not just about two names. It is a reassembling of the core team that created the earlier hit, from the production house to the expected music composer. For fans of the 2018 original, that is a deliberate continuity of trust.

Two bigger stars return

Both names arrive with bigger reputations than they had in 2018. Ram Charan has since appeared in S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR, which received global recognition, followed by Game Changer and Peddi. Sukumar, meanwhile, directed the Pushpa franchise, and Pushpa 2: The Rule with Allu Arjun became a major box-office success. That larger footprint is why RC17 is being described as a high-budget pan-India spectacle, a project built to travel beyond one language market.

In practical terms, a pan-India spectacle means the film is likely to be produced and marketed for multiple languages at once, not just Telugu. That generally means a larger budget, simultaneous releases in several languages and a promotional campaign that runs across regions.

What we know and what is still awaited

The announcement confirms the core team, but several details are still under wraps. The final title, female lead and supporting cast have not been announced, and the production schedule is only now expected to begin. There is also the possibility of a second reunion on the same set: Devi Sri Prasad is expected to compose the music, though the production has not officially confirmed that detail.

  • Confirmed: Ram Charan and Sukumar are reuniting for RC17, produced by Mythri Movie Makers with Sukumar Writings.
  • Expected: Devi Sri Prasad may handle the music, but the makers have not confirmed it.
  • Next: A final title, female lead and full cast announcement as production starts shortly.

For a pan-India film, the title and casting choices will signal which language markets the team wants to prioritise first. That will shape the promotional calendar in the months ahead, so the next reveal matters more than the first poster. Until then, RC17 is a promise with a proven track record behind it.
