Ram Charan Grows His Hair Out as Sukumar Finalises RC17 Look
Ram Charan's ponytail is a holding style while Sukumar finalises his RC17 look, with the film days away from launch after Peddi's success.

Ram Charan’s latest public appearance has fans reading the hair. The actor was seen with long hair pulled back into a ponytail, and the relaxed style looked less like a final choice and more like a pause. With director Sukumar Bandreddi still working on the final look for RC17, Ram Charan appears to be letting his hair grow until the character brief is locked.
A holding style before the launch
The timing is the real cue. RC17 is now just days away from its launch, and Ram Charan is coming off the box-office success of Peddi. Rather than committing to a short crop, he is keeping the length flexible. That gives Sukumar freedom to shape the hair around the character once the visual language of the film is finalised.
The hair has always been a storytelling tool
This is not a one-off experiment. Ram Charan’s filmography reads like a catalogue of character-driven makeovers:
- Magadheera: He moved from a modern-day biker to a rugged warrior in a period setting.
- Dhruva: The opposite direction — a sleek, sharp police officer with a trim cut and a leaner frame.
- Rangasthalam: His earlier collaboration with Sukumar brought an unpolished, rooted look.
- Peddi: Unkempt hair, a thick beard and a nose ring for the rural cricket drama.
He has also worked closely with celebrity stylists such as Aalim Hakim, mapping each hairstyle to the era, geography and world of the character. The shoulder-length hair and heavy beard he has carried in some roles show he does not reach for a standard, sleek template every time.
What RC17 seems to be
Details are still emerging. Reports suggest Sara Arjun is the likely female lead, while Aneet Padda is also being mentioned — though neither casting has been confirmed. Anirudh Ravichander is strongly tipped to handle the music. Where Peddi placed Ram Charan in a rural cricket backdrop, RC17 is reportedly set in an urban world instead. Official announcements are still awaited.
Why the ponytail matters to fans
For an actor whose image changes with the role, a small styling cue is often the first concrete signal about a new film. If RC17 is indeed an urban story, the longer hair could point toward a softer or more textured city-bred character. But Sukumar has never taken the obvious route, and the length could just as easily be shaped into something unexpected. Until the team announces the look, the ponytail is the only teaser audiences have.
