Pulavar Trailer: Bharathiraja’s Final Film Locks October 30 Release

Pulavar's trailer confirms an Oct 30 release and frames late Bharathiraja's final big-screen role as a tense murder investigation.

Bharathiraja’s final film Pulavar arrives in theatres Oct 30

The trailer for Pulavar is here, and it confirms what Tamil cinema fans had been waiting to hear: the crime thriller will arrive in theatres on October 30. For followers of the late Bharathiraja, the date carries extra weight — this is reported to be his final acting appearance on the big screen.

Makers unveiled the footage on Thursday, October 23. The film was originally set for September 25, but the team shifted it as a packed Tamil release calendar brought titles such as Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy, Ram’s Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai, Vijay Sethupathi’s Baththa and Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2. The new date gives the film a clearer shot at attention.

A cop, a killing and four suspects

Written and directed by Murukaiya, Pulavar follows a police investigation into the murder of a woman. Bharathiraja plays the officer leading an interrogation of four suspects. The trailer opens on a direct question — “Who killed that lady with an impact blow on her head?” — and then pushes further: “Upon whose order was it done?” That second line suggests the case may turn on a larger conspiracy rather than a single culprit.

The suspects insist they are innocent, but the officers aren’t convinced. The trailer also shows suspects being physically pressured in custody, and it closes on a sinister warning from Bharathiraja’s character: “If you don’t say, I will shoot you to death.” It’s a bleak, claustrophobic setup that leaves the actual circumstances of the murder open for the theatre.

Why the release matters

Bharathiraja is best known as a filmmaker, but he built a parallel career in front of the camera across Tamil cinema and beyond. His last screen appearance as a police officer came in Suseenthiran’s 2022 film Kuttram Kuttrame, which makes the role in Pulavar a fitting, full-circle note if it truly is his final film.

The ensemble adds texture around him:

  • Raichal Rabecca and Hello Kandasamy are among the key names.
  • Ravichandran, Vetrivel Raja and Poobalam Sandhil flesh out the ensemble.
  • Chaplin Sundar and Jintha round out the supporting cast.

On the craft side, Ajmal Khan has composed a score the makers call “gritty, rustic,” while Santhosh Narayanan renders the track “Oru Urundai.” RV Saran handles cinematography, Dhanasekar edits, A Arunkumar is art director and Poobalam Senthil writes the dialogue. Sameer Bharat Ram and Kasi Viswanathan produce under Super Talkies and White Nights Entertainment.

What to do before October 30

If you want to go in cold, watch the trailer once for the tone and then skip frame-by-frame breakdowns — the mystery hinges on conflicting accounts, so it’s better to avoid over-decoding the suspects. If you’re a Bharathiraja completist, this is the weekend to revisit Kuttram Kuttrame for a side-by-side look at his cop roles.
