Priyanka Chopra Jonas announces Ventilator 2 for 2027

Priyanka Chopra Jonas reunites with Rajesh Mapuskar for Ventilator 2, a sequel to the National Award-winning Marathi film, slated for 2027.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas announces Ventilator 2 for 2027

Priyanka Chopra Jonas is going back to one of the titles that gave her production banner its early identity. The actor-producer has announced Ventilator 2, a sequel to the 2016 Marathi-language family drama, and she is bringing original writer-director Rajesh Mapuskar back with her.

The film is set for a 2027 release under Purple Pebble Pictures and Magij Pictures. Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Dr Madhu Chopra and Rajesh Mapuskar are producing. Cast and storyline details have not been shared yet.

A sequel a decade in the making

The announcement leaned into the significance of the original film. In an Instagram note, Priyanka said she launched her banner to tell meaningful stories, and called Ventilator one of the most important ones for the company. She added, “A decade later, we’re coming back to it, with so much more…”

That decade gap matters. Ventilator was an early investment for the banner, and returning to it shows how much equity the title has built.

Why the original still resonates

Released in 2016, Ventilator followed the Kamerkar family as relatives gathered at a hospital after an elderly member was put on a ventilator just before Ganesh Chaturthi. The film used that pressure-cooker setting to explore family tension, generational gaps and unresolved histories with both humour and emotion.

It also became an awards favourite. The original took home three National Film Awards:

  • Best Director for Rajesh Mapuskar
  • Best Editing
  • Best Sound Mixing

That pedigree likely makes the sequel easier to bring back, even after ten years.

What Purple Pebble Pictures has built since then

Since the original, Purple Pebble Pictures has backed a deliberately wide slate. Its credits include Pahuna: The Little Visitors, Paani, The Sky Is Pink, The White Tiger, Firebrand, To Kill a Tiger and Anuja. The banner has moved between languages, genres and formats.

With Ventilator 2, it returns to one of its earliest successes. The team has time before 2027 to reveal whether the original cast returns, whether the story continues with the Kamerkars, and how the sequel updates a premise that was already emotionally complete.

For now, the announcement is enough: a National Award-winning Marathi story is coming back, and the filmmaker who shaped it is still in charge.
