Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2: Sundar C on Terminator Link

Sundar C says Mookuthi Amman 2 flips The Terminator's time-travel hook, with Nayanthara in dual roles. The Diwali release is still being fine-tuned.

Nayanthara's Mookuthi Amman 2 Gets a Terminator-Style Time Flip

Days before Mookuthi Amman 2 arrives in cinemas, director Sundar C has explained the hook behind the Nayanthara-led sequel: a time-travel idea that flips The Terminator on its head.

Speaking with Behindwoods TV, he traced the film’s spark to a simple inversion.

“In Terminator, a robot comes from the future. What if a character comes from the past?” Sundar C said, adding that producer Ishari Ganesh then pushed him to make Part 2 with that thought attached to Amman.

Why the Terminator comparison matters

Rather than borrowing from James Cameron’s action world, the director said the similarity lies in the premise. Where Terminator sends a machine forward into our present, Mookuthi Amman 2 imagines a divine figure arriving from the opposite direction. Sundar C admitted he expects audiences to compare the sequel to its predecessor.

He drew a parallel with his Aranmanai franchise, which has four instalments. “Apart from the screenplay pattern, nothing will be similar,” he said. Each Aranmanai film collected more than the previous one, he noted, but some viewers still said each new part was unlike the one before.

What we know about the film

  • Nayanthara stars in dual roles, returning as Mookuthi Amman.
  • The story spans two timelines: an ancient conflict and a present-day officer discovering her identity as Mahasakthi.
  • The cast includes Regina Cassandra, Duniya Vijay, Urvashi, Yogi Babu and Maina Nandhini, with cameos from three actresses.

Still fine-tuning before Diwali

Mookuthi Amman 2 is set for a theatrical release on November 6, 2026, coinciding with Diwali. Sundar C said he is still polishing the film and admitted to nerves: “I didn’t sleep for four days as Mookuthi Amman 2 was releasing on Friday.” He added that he prays at the end of every shoot for a chance to make one more film.

For fans of devotional fantasy, the sequel’s promise is a bigger mythological canvas built on a simple, reverse-time hook.
