Mookuthi Amman 2 Adds 10 Minutes to the Original

Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2 is getting bigger in every sense. The fantasy sequel has officially received a UA 16+ certification, and the final cut runs 2 hours and 25 minutes. That makes it 10 minutes longer than the 2020 original, a detail that signals a more ambitious mythological ride when it arrives in cinemas on November 6, 2026, for Diwali.

A Diwali release with a longer divine mission

Directed by Sundar C, the film is positioned as a Diwali theatrical event. The team confirmed the certification and runtime on social media, writing, “We’re all set to blow your mind with GRANDEUR, DEVOTION & POWERFUL EMOTIONS.”

The UA 16+ rating means parental guidance is advised for viewers under 16, which fits a film built around supernatural clashes and divine mythology. For families heading out over the long Diwali weekend, that is a useful indicator to check the certification before booking.

What the longer runtime tells us

A 2-hour-25-minute cut gives the sequel more room to move between two timelines. According to the makers, the plot opens in a period setting where two powerful forces are preparing for a conflict that could unleash chaos. In the present day, a similar fight emerges, linking past events to a larger divine mystery.

At the centre is a timid officer whose life gets pulled into an extraordinary battle. Nayanthara is reportedly in line to play dual roles, while Regena Cassandrra appears as the antagonist. With hints of additional divine figures in the story, the extended runtime appears designed to balance mythology, fantasy and supernatural spectacle, so neither timeline has to rush.

  • Runtime: 2 hours 25 minutes
  • Certificate: UA 16+
  • Release date: November 6, 2026 (Diwali)
  • Comparison: 10 minutes longer than Mookuthi Amman (2020)
  • Key cast: Nayanthara, Regena Cassandrra, Duniya Vijay, Urvashi, Yogi Babu, Maina Nandhini, Garuda Ram, Abhinaya, Shruthy S, Singampuli and others

A bigger supporting cast

The sequel brings together Duniya Vijay, Urvashi, Yogi Babu, Maina Nandhini, Garuda Ram, Abhinaya, Shruthy S, Singampuli and others in key roles. The ensemble mix of dramatic actors and comic performers points to a film that wants to be both grand and entertaining.

From OTT hit to theatres

The first Mookuthi Amman was directed by RJ Balaji and NJ Saravanan, with Nayanthara playing the titular divine figure. It premiered directly on OTT and is available on JioHotstar. A theatrical sequel is a strong vote of confidence in the franchise and in Nayanthara’s pull at the box office.

Nayanthara was last seen in the romantic comedy Hi, opposite Kavin. She next has a busy slate: a film with Salman Khan tentatively titled Monster, directed by Vamshi Paidipally, and Dharman, an action entertainer with Rajinikanth, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu.

For fans, the certification makes the countdown to Diwali clearer. The runtime is locked, and the next milestone is November 6.
