Kartik Aaryan to headline Operation Sindoor: what we know

Kartik Aaryan is reportedly set to front Vivek Agnihotri's Operation Sindoor, a true-events military drama. Here is what we know so far.

Kartik Aaryan to headline Operation Sindoor

Kartik Aaryan is stepping toward a very different register. According to a report in Variety India, the actor will headline Operation Sindoor, the next film from director Vivek Agnihotri, and it is built on a real military operation rather than the comic premises that first made him a star.

Where the story comes from

The film borrows its title and material from Lt. Gen. K. J. S. "Tiny" Dhillon’s book Operation Sindoor: The Untold Story of India’s Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan. Agnihotri has described the operation as one that changed security thinking across the subcontinent.

Agnihotri announced the project in March. At the time, he said the story sits in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and has been developed with research support from multiple wings of the Indian Armed Forces. In his words:

"not to create noise, but to confront it: with facts, with clarity, and the magic of cinema."

Producers and timing

T-Series and Agnihotri’s banner I Am Buddha Productions are backing the film. Bhushan Kumar’s involvement gives it mainstream muscle and a large distribution network.

  • The team: Kartik Aaryan leads the cast, with Vivek Agnihotri directing.
  • The basis: Lt Gen K. J. S. "Tiny" Dhillon’s account of India’s deep strikes inside Pakistan.
  • The timeline: Aaryan is expected to start after he wraps Captain India, with Naagzilla opening on February 12, 2027.

What’s already on Kartik’s slate

Aaryan is currently filming Shimit Amin’s Captain India, set against the Houthi conflict in Yemen. He will reportedly move to Operation Sindoor only after completing that shoot.

Before that, audiences will catch him in Naagzilla, directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and produced by Karan Johar and Mahaveer Jain. The film is set for February 12, 2027, and marks the Hindi-language debut of Preity Mukhundhan, who has worked in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films.

Why this news matters

For Aaryan, the project continues a visible move toward stories with institutional and real-world weight, alongside titles with mass entertainment appeal. For Agnihotri, it brings a highly popular mainstream star into his signature fact-driven, confrontational space. That combination makes Operation Sindoor one of the more talked-about upcoming Hindi films.

No production start or release window has been shared yet, but the pairing is enough to put the film on the radar. The next update fans should watch for is confirmation from T-Series or I Am Buddha, along with the rest of the cast.
