Kamal Haasan-Trisha Krishnan’s Pairing in Thug Life Sparks Debate; Mani Ratnam Responds

Director Mani Ratnam has finally addressed the buzz around Thug Life, especially the criticism over Kamal Haasan’s on-screen chemistry with Trisha Krishnan and Abhirami, owing to their 30-year age gap.

In a recent interview, Ratnam defended the portrayal, saying such relationships exist in real life and cinema shouldn’t be judged for reflecting reality. “When it’s in cinema, we try to find fault, but these dynamics have always been part of society,” he said.

Trisha, too, responded to the chatter during a pre-release event in Mumbai. She recalled sensing the film’s potential the moment it was announced—even before she officially joined the cast. “I knew this was magic,” she said.

Despite mixed reactions to some trailer scenes, Thug Life remains one of 2025’s most awaited films, set to release on June 5.
