How do you end a movie?

A movie can conclude in one of four ways: happy, sad, bittersweet happy, or bittersweet sad. Do you think that’s a little reductive? Not even when you consider how many various ways these endings may be presented.

So, how then do you figure out what a story’s finale will be? It’s actually not that difficult.

You must answer two questions in order to choose the type of ending. Do the good folks come out on top? Is the main character content when he or she returns home? That is all there is to it.

We’ll start with Triumphs, which are also known as Happy Endings. Films that make you smile

These are the movie that everyone assumes the majority of stereotyped studio execs enjoy. While I don’t have any hard evidence to back this up, I’m very sure it’s because Happy Ending movies are the most popular at the box office. The vast majority of people prefer to see a film with a happy conclusion.

We begin with Top Gun, a tremendously cheesy glorification of any and all things masculine. What does the video above show? If you look closely, you’ll notice that the good folks are celebrating their win over the Evil Empire by leaping up and down and thrusting their fingers in the air.

Maverick (Tom Cruise) had finally handled his personal concerns with Goose including living in his father’s shadow inside the following scenes. He’s now “free” to kick ass with his own terms after tossing his buddy’s dog tags into to the water.

The good people have triumphed, as well as the main character returns to Miramar pleased—Top Gun is the epitome of a cheerful film.

Three Alternative Endings

We’ll explore at some of the other methods to finish a tale in future posts. Hopefully, the above clips demonstrate that there’s a zillion different ways to implement those cliffhangers in to the your storey, although with the restrictive notion of just four types of endings.
