Tigmanshu Dhulia helmed Haasil, a 2003 Indian criminal drama movie. The major characters are Jimmy Sheirgill, Hrishitaa Bhatt, Irrfan Khan, and Ashutosh Rana. For his depiction of Ranvijay Singh inside the flick, Irrfan Khan received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role.
The Haasil film is set in and around Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, and was shot there. In the years since the film has gained a cult following. The film’s backdrop is student politics at Allahabad University and the shady turn it follows.
Anirudh (Jimmy Sheirgill) and Niharika (Hrishitaa Bhatt) became romantically entangled after meeting in university. However, their love is hampered by political feuds among two competing student gangs led by Gaurishankar Pandey (Ashutosh Rana) and Ranvijay Singh (Irfan Khan). While Anirudh encounters Ranvijay, who now has removed Gaurishankar Pandey, the latter thinks he is only assisting a classmate.
Anirudh becomes embroiled in aggressive politics and inadvertently shoots Niharika’s relative. With both the help of his assistant, Ranvijay Singh assists him in escaping to Mumbai (Rajpal Yadav).
Anirudh subsequently discovers the truth about Ranvijay Singh’s ultimate goal of marrying Niharika.
Badrishankar Pandey (Murad Ali), the murdered Gaurishankar Pandey’s brother, assists Anirudh in killing Ranvijay in order to revenge his brother’s death. After the Anirudh murders, Ranvijay, the gangs of Ranvijay and Badrishankar Pandey engage in a violent gunfight at the Kumbh Mela. Kamalnath Tiwari (Sudhir Pandey), the Chief Minister, assists them in escaping the crime site and has Anirudh cleared of all charges because he was also blackmailed by Ranvijay.
