Opening weekend rewrites the franchise playbook

Drishyam 3 — released as Drishyam: The Conclusion — has turned its opening weekend into a box-office event. The Ajay Devgn-led crime thriller collected ₹272 crore worldwide across its first three days, according to Hindustan Times trade figures, with Sunday estimates edging toward ₹273 crore. That leaves the film just short of the ₹300-crore milestone before its first Monday.

The domestic run has been the engine. India collections reached ₹176.50 crore net, or ₹211.80 crore gross, across the weekend. Friday led with ₹62 crore net, Saturday added ₹53.50 crore, and Sunday brought ₹61 crore. Overseas markets have been steady rather than explosive, contributing a little over $6 million.

  • Friday: ₹93 crore worldwide opening day
  • Saturday: ₹53.50 crore net domestic
  • Sunday: ₹61 crore net domestic
  • Opening weekend worldwide: ₹272 crore

It has already outrun recent big-ticket releases

In one weekend, Drishyam 3 has passed the full lifetime collections of several major 2026 titles. That list includes Ajay Devgn’s own Raid 2 at ₹243 crore, Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla at ₹247 crore, and Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par at ₹266 crore. The film is now the seventh biggest opening weekend for a Hindi film, sitting close to Sultan and ahead of War and Tiger 3.

The franchise’s next milestone is personal

To become Ajay Devgn’s highest-grossing film, Drishyam 3 will need to move past Drishyam 2 at ₹347 crore and Tanhaji at ₹367 crore. That target is now realistic, but it depends on the Monday hold and the first full week. A strong weekday run could push the film past ₹300 crore quickly and change the conversation from opening weekend phenomenon to long-run blockbuster.

Why this opening matters

Franchise momentum is doing the heavy lifting. The film entered release with ₹50 crore in gross earnings from India even before its first show, powered by advance bookings. That early demand converted into a ₹93 crore worldwide Friday and kept the weekend from slowing down. For fans, the suspense-heavy format rewards watching early before spoilers spread; for box-office watchers, the Monday number is the next real test.

The story so far

Directed and written by Abhishek Pathak, Drishyam: The Conclusion brings back Ajay Devgn as Vijay Salgaonkar alongside Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav and Kamlesh Sawant. Saurabh Shukla returns in a cameo, while Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj join the cast. The film released on October 2.
