Bajirao Mastani

Sanjay Leela Bhansali helmed and wrote the soundtrack for Bajirao Mastani, a 2015 Bollywood Hindi-language epic historical romance movie. The movie stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, as well as Priyanka Chopra and is co-produced by Bhansali and Kishore Lulla of Eros International. Tanvi Azmi, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi, and Milind Soman are among the supporting cast members. Bajirao Mastani tells the narrative of Maratha Peshwa Bajirao I (1700–1740 AD) and his second wife, Mastani, and is based on the Marathi fictitious book Rau by Nagnath S. Inamdar.

The movie was first conceived in the 1990s, and Bhansali announced this in 2003, but production was repeatedly delayed owing to the shifting cast. Bajirao Mastani, a passion project for Bhansali, languished in development purgatory for the next eleven years before even being resurrected in 2014. Before beginning into pre-production, considerable research was conducted, that necessitated the development of twenty-two extremely detailed sets, as well as various costumes and items to enhance the film’s richness as well as high production value. The majority of the movie was shot on sets built at Film City, with several scenes shot on site. In post-production, visual effects, as well as CGI, were employed to improve the number of sequences.

The movie was released on December 18, 2015, and received critical acclaim for Bhansali’s directing, several technical breakthroughs, as well as the cast’s performances. The magnitude, majesty, and attention to detail in Bajirao Mastani have all been praised. It is among the most costly Bollywood movies, with such a budget of 145 crores, excluding marketing and commercials. It became a great financial success and is one of the highest-earning Indian movies of all time, making over 356 crores there at the box office.

Bajirao Mastani received seven National Film Awards, included Best Direction for Sanjay Leela Bhansali as well as Best Supporting Actress for Shabana Azmi.

There at 61st Filmfare Prizes, the film grossed a record-breaking fourteen nominations as well as took home nine awards, notably Best Film, Best Director for Bhansali, Best Actor for Singh, as well as Best Supporting Actress for Chopra. Singh took home the Critics Award for Best Actor – Male, while Padukone took home the award for Best Actor – Female at the Zee Cine Awards.
