Arunabh Kumar’s 20-Year Film Dream Nears ₹100 Crore with Vvaan
TVF founder Arunabh Kumar's first theatrical film Vvaan is winning mass belts and nearing ₹100 crore gross after a 20-year wait.

Twenty years after Arunabh Kumar landed in Mumbai hoping to direct a movie, his first theatrical film is on the verge of a major commercial milestone. Vvaan, brought to the big screen under the TVF banner, is winning over audiences in mass markets and inching toward the ₹100 crore gross mark worldwide.
The journey was anything but linear. Before he became known for TVF’s web originals, Kumar spent six difficult years trying to break into filmmaking. He faced repeated rejections across film, advertising and television — and by 2012, his financial situation was so tight that he did not know where his next meal would come from. He decided to pause the filmmaking ambition and started TVF, initially creating corporate videos and YouTube content to survive.
From rejected filmmaker to digital storyteller
That pivot turned TVF into a strong digital storytelling brand. But the cinema dream never fully left. Two decades later, it has taken shape with Vvaan, which has struck a chord with audiences in much the same way TVF’s popular shows have.
In a social media reflection, Arunabh wrote that the film “metaphorically tries to reach a figure of 100 Crore Gross at Box Office” and thanked everyone involved since the project began. He acknowledged producer Ektaa Kapoor for encouraging him to return to filmmaking and backing the project, with Deepak Mishra directing and Anandeshwar Dwivedi as co-writer.
Vvaan’s box office moment
The film’s run is notable because it shows TVF’s storytelling translating from small screens to big screens — and beyond metro pockets into mass belts. For a studio that built its audience on YouTube and OTT, a ₹100 crore gross would mark a serious crossover moment.
- 20 years: the gap between Arunabh Kumar’s Mumbai arrival in 2006 and his first theatrical release
- 2012: the year he started TVF after putting filmmaking on hold
- ₹100 crore gross: the worldwide box office mark Vvaan is now approaching
Kumar’s post also pointed to writing his first film at a Hiranandani CCD in 2006. It is a reminder that the most visible box-office stories often begin quietly — with years of rejection and very different work keeping the dream alive.
What this means for fans
For audiences who grew up on TVF’s web series, Vvaan is more than a film release. It signals that the studio’s brand of storytelling can now hold its own in cinemas. If the film crosses the ₹100 crore mark, it gives TVF a fresh theatrical track record after years of digital-first success. Kumar has indicated that more posts about the journey are coming, suggesting this is the beginning of a larger film story rather than a one-off.
