Anushka Sen’s Jeju Olle at 27th Newport Beach Film Festival
Anushka Sen's Korea-India film Jeju Olle will have its North American premiere at the 27th Newport Beach Film Festival on October 21.

Anushka Sen is taking her latest film, Jeju Olle, to North America. The Korea-India co-production has been selected for the 27th Newport Beach Film Festival, where it will have its North American premiere on October 21.
The screening is part of the festival’s Korean Spotlight programme. It is scheduled for 7:30 PM at Screen 1 of Regal Edwards Big Newport, the festival’s largest auditorium, giving the film its first public presentation to North American audiences.
What Jeju Olle is about
Directed and written by Jin Kwang-Kyo, the 148-minute film centres on Alisha, an Indian star who steps away from the spotlight after losing her cousin and longtime manager. She travels to Jeju Island to fulfil a promise they made together, and meets Ha Sun-woo, a former K-pop idol who has retreated after his own career setbacks.
The two spend a week exploring the island, sharing music and confronting old wounds. Shot in Korean, Hindi and English, the film blends Korean romance with India’s musical spirit, exploring love, healing and new beginnings.
A rare crossover gets a bigger stage
The festival selection matters beyond a single screening. Co-productions that genuinely bridge the Indian and Korean entertainment industries are still uncommon, even as K-drama and K-pop fandoms continue to grow in India. A project like Jeju Olle puts an Indian actor at the centre of that exchange, in a story that uses both cultures rather than treating one as a backdrop.
For Sen, the moment is personal as well as professional. “Representing India in different parts of the world has always been a dream for me,” she said. “Every time I get an opportunity to represent my country, it feels super special, and I feel extra grateful for it.”
