Anupam Kher on Surviving in Bollywood: “Even Today’s Superstars Once Looked Ghochu!”

Veteran actor Anupam Kher spoke exclusively with Bollywood Chronicles about how, when he first started in the Indian Film industry, he used his unusual appearance to his advantage. Kher stressed that aspiring actors should put more effort into honing their craft than worrying excessively about appearance, as he reflected on his early days in Bollywood.

“Practicing your skills is crucial. He emphasized that true longevity in the field comes from talent rather than appearances, saying, “Even if you’re not traditionally good-looking, the depth of your performance will carry you far.”

Kher also made a cheeky comment about how today’s top stars have changed, stating, “Aaj ke superstars bhi pehle ghochu dikhte the!” He pointed out that many now-famous actors didn’t start out looking glamorous; instead, they gained recognition for their skill as actors and only then focused on their appearance and grooming.

What does he want newcomers to learn? “Avoid pursuing glitz and glamour. Strive for excellence in your work, and everything else will fall into place.
