Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park, subsequently shortened to Jurassic World, is an American science fiction media franchise about a failed attempt to build a cloned dinosaur amusement park.

It all started in 1990, when Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment purchased the rights to Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park novel before it was released. The novel, as well as Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film version, was a hit. The film was re-released in 3D in theatres in 2013, and the Library of Congress chose it for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 2018 as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically important.” The Lost World, a sequel novel published in 1995, was adapted into a film in 1997. Following films in the franchise, such as Jurassic Park III (2001), are not based on the books.

With Jurassic World, the fourth movie in the series, a second trilogy of movies commenced in 2015. This movie was a hit, collecting more than $1.6 billion globally in its first weekend, making it the third highest-grossing picture at the time. Jurassic World, behind Jurassic Park, is the second highest-grossing movie in the franchise when adjusted for inflation. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the sequel, made over $1.3 billion globally, making it the third Jurassic film to do so. It is the 13th highest-grossing picture of all time and the third highest-grossing film of 2018. Jurassic World: Dominion, the last instalment in the trilogy, will be published on June 10.

Since the debut of the 1993 movie, a slew of computer games and comic books based on the property have been released, as well as multiple water attractions at Universal Studios theme parks. Lego has created various animation projects based on the Jurassic World movie, including a 2019 miniseries. On September 18, 2020, DreamWorks Animation and Netflix released Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, an animated series. The series has grossed $5 billion in revenue by the year 2000, making it one of the most profitable media franchises of all time.
