The Jack Ryan franchise is indeed a series of American action-thriller films based on Tom Clancy’s fictitious title character from such a series of novels. The part has been played by a variety of actors.

In 1985, producer Mace Neufeld optioned the rights to Tom Clancy’s 1984 novel The Hunt for Red October upon seeing galley proofs. Notwithstanding the book’s success, no Hollywood company was interested in acquiring the movie rights due to the expensive cost of condensing the book’s huge substance into a two-hour film.
