Two blockbuster movies should not be released on the same day, according to the trade and some elements of the industry. Nonetheless, conflicts have occurred often, and they will continue to occur frequently in the coming months. Some states closed theatres as a result of the third wave of Covid-19, while the remainder opted for a night curfew. As a result, Alia Bhatt there was no movie released in January. Things will start to improve next week, when Badhaai Do is released on February 11.

The historical drama Gangubai Kathiawadi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, will be released in theatres on February 25.

Valimai, starring Ajith, is set to hit theatres on February 24. Rumours have been circulating in the trade and industry for a few days. The creators made the formal announcement earlier in the day. The actioner, which is co-produced by Boney Kapoor, will be released not just in Tamil but also in Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada. In a nutshell, it will be the first major fight of the year 2022.

A trade expert told Bollywood Hungama, “Valimai is essentially a Tamil film but it’s going to have a wide release in Hindi. The trailer is very promising and audiences would love to watch it on the big screen. Ajith has a sizeable fan following in Hindi markets. Moreover, Pushpa: The Rise – Part 01’s super-success is fresh in everyone’s minds. Hence, the trade is looking forward to the performance of Valimai’s Hindi version.”

The trade expert further said, “A lot of negativity emerged thanks to the clash of Sooryavanshi and Eternals on Diwali, and during the releases of Pushpa: The Rise – Part 01, Spider-Man: No Way Home and ’83. The exhibitors also suffered. We hope, PEN Marudhar, the studio backing Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Zee Studios, that has backed Valimai, are able to amicably divide shows amongst themselves.”

According to reports, Alia Bhatt plays the major role in Gangubai Kathiawadi, which also stars Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi in supporting parts.

Valimai was meant to be released on January 13, 2022, but the Tamil Nadu government placed restrictions as well as planned a Sunday lockdown, thus it was pushed up. On December 31, 2021, Bollywood Hungama was the first to report that the 178-minute long Valimai has been approved by the CBFC with 15 edits.

Meanwhile, trade is preparing for another conflict, although a small one, on February 11 before the Gangubai Kathiawadi-Valimai battle. Khiladi, a Telugu film starring Ravi Teja and Bhumi Pednekar, will be released in Hindi with Badhaai Do, a Hindi film starring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar. According to industry experts, Khiladi is projected to have a large screen count in Hindi markets.
