K-pop Goes Hollywood is the title of a reality-TV competition series wherein American contestants compete for a spot inside the line-up of a new group, NCT Hollywood. SM Entertainment, which will introduce the new group, would then produce the show in Korea with both the producer of the US TV singing competition The Voice.
NCT is heading to Hollywood, literally: the popular K-pop group will select this next member thru a reality TV show called K-pop Star. The band’s label, SM Entertainment, told the Post that the band is headed to Hollywood.
The series, with the exception of “goes,” is a cooperation between a South Korean entertainment organisation and MGM Television, an American media company that produces popular shows like The Voice, a reality singing competition series that airs on NBC.
It was originally stated that 21 hopefuls will battle for a spot in NCT, however, SM confirmed on Monday that perhaps the series picked one winner will begin a small K-pop group called NCT Hollywood as planned. NCT members will appear in the film K-pop Goes Hollywood.
With the debut of “Blackpink: Light Up the Sky” on Netflix earlier this month, K-pop documentaries appear to be on the verge of becoming ubiquitous inside the United States. However, reality programmes about the genre, which enable viewers to see the hard labour that goes on behind the scenes, have a long and distinguished history in South Korea, stretching back 20 years.
The groundbreaking show “g.o.dbaby .’s diary” followed early K-pop group g.o.d. because it cared for a baby called Jaemin in 2000, while Blackpink’s predecessor Girls Generation did the same with a 9-month-old named Kyungsan in the first season of “Hello Baby” in 2009.
