Mission: Impossible 7

Mission: Impossible 7 is well-known for its high-octane stunts, such as driving a motorcycle off a cliff in Norway, which actor Tom Cruise performed death-defying the laws of physics. This stunt, and others like it, proved to be quite costly, given that it and others like it had to be pulled off in the midst of a global pandemic. It left Paramount and Skydance Media with a huge budget and a never-ending stream of unexpected costs.

According to Variety, Mission: Impossible 7 cost $290 million to make, which is tens of millions more than the studio and its financial partner had anticipated.

The astronomical price tag includes the significant tax breaks that the worldwide manufacturing was able to take advantage of to keep expenses down. The most recent instalment in the series, Mission: Impossible — Fallout, cost $190 million to produce.

The fact that Mission: Impossible 7 was supposed to start shooting in Venice in February 2020 but had to stop and resume production seven times is a major reason for the budget increase. The first day of major photography was in Venice, on the same day that Northern Italy was placed under COVID-19 lockdown. The production subsequently hurried to relocate shooting to Rome, only to be forced to stop down once more as the number of cases increased.

Because the studio had to keep crew and cast members employed and housed during extended lag times and quarantine periods due to public health regulations and new outbreaks of the illness, unforeseen expenditures arose. There are additional expenditures connected with closing streets and canals in big cities like Rome and Venice, only to have to reject those plans and reschedule them. Global supply chain challenges added to the mix, resulting in unexpected expenses for timber and related commodities.

In January, Paramount revealed that Mission: Impossible 7 will be delayed, resulting in an increase in the film’s overall budget due to interest expenses.

Mission: Impossible 8 will be released on June 28, 2024, rather than the originally anticipated July 7, 2023, according to Paramount and Skydance. Tom Cruise wants to finish the eighth picture even before the seventh is out, which is one of the reasons behind this. Because the seventh film finishes on such a cliffhanger, the actor wants to ensure that now the transition between episodes is as smooth as possible.
