Catherine Zeta-Jones, an Oscar and Tony Award winner, will star as a series regular in Disney+’s National Treasure TV series. Billie, a “badass millionaire, black-market antiquities specialist, and treasure hunter who lives by her own code,” is the role Zeta-Jones will play.

“Billie changed herself from a poor orphan to a savvy, sophisticated entrepreneur and adventurer,” according to Entertainment Weekly’s description of the character. She’s used to getting what she wants, and the Pan-American treasure is no exception. But it’s not only about the cash. For her, the stakes are higher with this fortune.”

The new drama, based upon that Nicolas Cage-starring National Treasure films, will feature Lisette Alexis as Jess, a new, younger heroine. She’s a Dreamer who sets out with a once-in-a-lifetime trip to discover the truth regarding her family’s secret past and preserve a forgotten Pan-American treasure, which Billie is chasing.

The series was initially rumoured to be in development in May 2020 when franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer mentioned this in a conversation with a newspaper. Things are looking up almost two years later.

Tasha is played by Zuri Reed of Flatbush Misdemeanors, Ethan is played by Jordan Rodrigues of Lady Bird, Oren is played by Antonio Cipriano of Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill, and Jake Austin of Rectify is played by Catherine Zeta-Jones. These are Jess’ companions, whom she enlists to assist her in her treasure search. Lyndon Smith, well known for his role on Parenthood, will play FBI Agent Ross, who will aid in the search.
