Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios is ready to sell Chris Pine’s directorial debut Poolman, in which the Feature Trek actor will star with Oscar contenders Annette Being and Danny DeVito. Chris Pine will portray Darren Barrenman, a hopeless dreamer and would-be philosopher who spends his days tending to the pool of the Tahitian Tiki apartment complex in sunny Los Angeles and disrupting city council meetings with his neighbours Jack and Diane, according to Deadline (DeVito, Bening).
When Barrenman discovers the largest water heist in Los Angeles history since Chinatown, he forms uneasy alliances with a beautiful and well-connected femme fatale while following every lead he can with corrupt city officials, burned-out Hollywood types, and mysterious benefactors – all in the name of protecting his beloved Los Angeles. Comedic cameos and a supporting cast are expected to be added.
Pine, Stacey Sher, who previously collaborated on Django Unchained for Shiny Penny Productions, Patty Jenkins from Wonder Woman, and Ian Gotler will produce the mystery comedy.
Gotler, a partner at the Hell Or High Water actor’s production firm Barry Linen Motion Pictures, collaborated on the project with Chris Pine. Stuart Ford and Linda McDonough serve as executive producers.
The proposal, described as “Big Lebowski meets LA cinematic noir with a healthy dash of La La Land,” quickly rises to the top of the virtual EFM’s project list.
This week, Pine, Jenkins, Sher, and AGC’s Ford will make a presentation to purchasers. Domestically, CAA Media Finance is co-representing with AGC, which is funding. Pine reunites with Jenkins, who directed Wonder Woman. The Contractor, Violence Of Action, Don’t Worry Darling, and Dungeons And Dragons are among the future films for the Star Trek star.
The squad plans to begin training in Los Angeles in June 2022.
