Tu Hai Meri Kiran Targets 500 Screens, Skips Darr Remix
Producer Vishal Rana on the Darr title recall, the Obsession-sized market moment and a crowded October 23 release plan.

When Tu Hai Meri Kiran opens this Friday, October 23, it walks into cinemas with one of Hindi cinema’s most recognisable song titles — and a deliberate decision not to revive the song. Producer Vishal Rana told Bollywood Hungama the team wanted the recall of Shah Rukh Khan’s Darr (1993) without the comparison that a remix would invite.
Flipping a real-life couple
The obsessive-love thriller stars Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal, a real-life couple, in a very different on-screen equation. Rana said Sonakshi was approached first because the script needed an actress in the 25–30 age group. Finding a male lead who could match her aura — and still read as a powerful, creepy stalker — took longer.
Zaheer’s audition changed that. Rana said he and director Karan Rawal were surprised by the intensity he brought to a character with grey shades. The team then leaned into the idea of pitting the couple against each other rather than pairing them romantically.
A title, not a tie-in
The title Tu Hai Meri Kiran is also a famous song from Darr. Rana explained that a friend of Zaheer’s suggested it after hearing the film’s story. When the producers checked with IMPPA, they found the title had never been registered.
Still, the producer did not pursue the song rights. He said he did not want people to compare the two films. In his reading, the title alone is enough to signal an obsessive stalker premise, so the remix was unnecessary.
Positioned for the Obsession moment
Rana calls the film the team’s “answer to Obsession”, pointing to the 2026 hit as proof that dark, twist-heavy love stories are connecting in theatres. He believes the timing works because younger audiences are currently drawn to stories packed with twists.
The release plan is deliberately modest. The team is targeting around 500 screens and roughly 1,500 shows on October 23. Rana argued that films often open small and add screens when content connects, while big releases can collapse after the weekend if the film is weak.
- Title: borrowed for recall, not a Darr spin-off.
- Genre moment: positioned as an answer to Obsession.
- Release: 500 screens and 1,500 shows, with word of mouth leading.
The crowded date
The film shares October 23 with six other releases, but Rana said there is no major event film in the clash. The team had already begun promotions when the date filled up, so delaying made little sense. A separate Bollywood Hungama report notes the Bombay High Court has directed the makers to deposit Rs 8.85 crores before release, adding a legal watch-point to the weekend.
For fans, the draw is a darker Sonakshi–Zaheer pairing and a title that promises obsession without remaking Darr. For the trade, the test is whether a mid-sized film can convert a crowded Friday into a content-driven run.
