Shekhar Suman Recalls Final Words of 11-Year-Old Son Aayush

Shekhar Suman opens up about losing his 11-year-old son Aayush to a rare heart condition in 1995 and recalls his final words and wife Alka's plea.

Shekhar Suman Recalls Final Words of Son Aayush

Shekhar Suman has shared the most painful chapter of his life, describing the final moments of his 11-year-old son Aayush, who died in 1995 from a rare heart condition, endomyocardial fibrosis.

The hospital room he still remembers

In an interview with The Lallantop, the actor and host recalled how Aayush began reciting Sanskrit shlokas shortly before his death. He said the boy held his hand and told him, ‘Papa, I don’t want to go. Please save me.’

Shekhar described the moment as bewildering: his son spoke of a golden light. Aayush then told everyone present, including the family’s driver, that he loved them.

As the child’s condition deteriorated, Alka Suman made an impossible plea: she asked the doctors to let him go, because she could not bear to see him suffer.

He told her, ‘What are you saying? We will fight till the end.’ She replied, ‘This is the end. Let him go; he is suffering a lot,’ Shekhar recalled. He later described his wife as a ‘savvy mother who begged for her son’s death.’

Grief and work ran side by side

The loss did not arrive in a calm professional moment. Shekhar was struggling to find work when he learned of Aayush’s diagnosis. With his son terminally ill, he took up television projects to support the family.

He signed on to Dekh Bhai Dekh, produced by Jaya Bachchan, and kept his phone close during shoots so he could stay updated about Aayush. That detail reframes a familiar comedy for fans who may have watched it without knowing the private anxiety behind the scenes.

What he shared about Aayush’s last moments:

  • Aayush was 11 and had a rare, incurable heart condition, endomyocardial fibrosis.
  • Shekhar says the boy recited Sanskrit shlokas and spoke of a golden light.
  • His wife Alka asked doctors to let their son go after his suffering worsened.

After Aayush’s death, Shekhar said he lost interest in money and fame, but he kept working to support the rest of his family.

Why this matters now

The conversation lands as Shekhar has returned to late-night hosting. His digital talk show Shekhar Tonite premiered on May 15, 2026, and recently concluded its first season, marking his return to the format after nearly 14 years away from Movers & Shakers.

For fans, the interview adds a layer to that comeback. It is a reminder that an actor who makes audiences laugh can carry a grief that never fully leaves. Shekhar did not frame the loss as a lesson; he called it destiny and said no bigger tragedy can befall parents than losing their children.

That honesty, rather than speculation, is what makes the interview land. The story is not new gossip but an old wound, reopened by a public figure on his own terms.
