Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted to cast him in Saawariya, Says Prateik Babbar

With the 2008 film Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Naa, Prateik Babbar made his Bollywood debut. Did you know that he was set to make his acting debut a year earlier in a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film? That’s right, you read that correctly. Prateik said in a recent interview that SLB wanted to cast him in Saawariya. However, because he was in treatment, it did not work out.

Prateik told Mashable India that Bhansali had called his house and asked whether he wanted to cast him in Saawariya. This was eventually disclosed to him by his grandparents. Prateik explained, “Actually I have a funny story. Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali was calling my house when I was 18 years old, when I was in rehab, for Saawariya. I was too young, I was in rehab so it couldn’t have worked out. But my grandparents told me a few years later.”

Prateik was quick to respond that he did not regret missing out on the opportunity since, despite his parents Smita Patil and Raj Babbar being well-known actors, he did not wish to be one at the time. He said that he aspired to be a rockstar with long hair, eye, and facial makeup and that he wanted to be removed from the world of acting. Prateik has previously stated that he aspired to be a cricketer. The actor from Dhobi Ghat stated that he stumbled onto acting and that it became his calling.

Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor star in SLB’s Saawariya, which also features Salman Khan and Rani Mukerji in cameo roles. At the box office, it was a flop.

Prateik will next be seen in Bachchhan Paandey, a film starring Akshay Kumar and Kriti Sanon. On March 18th, the film will be released in theatres.
