Saif Ali Khan Recalls Kareena Begging to Stop on First Bike Ride

Saif Ali Khan does not often hand out stories from his romance with Kareena Kapoor Khan, but when he does, the details are usually worth listening to. On a recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, he told Amitabh Bachchan about the first time he took Kareena on a motorcycle ride during the making of Tashan in Ladakh, and how the moment went from promising to awkward in a matter of seconds.
The ride started with a well-meaning suggestion
Saif said that at the time, he and Kareena were still in the early, formal phase of working together. They were polite co-stars, not yet a couple. He had hired a bike on the Ladakh schedule and often rode to the sets with his headphones on, taking in the mountain roads. Someone on set then suggested that he invite Kareena along because she was known to like motorcycles.
Saif took the advice and asked her. She said yes, and he assumed the outing would be an easy way to bring them closer.
Then the ride went off-script
It did not take long for the plan to fall apart. As Saif remembered it, Kareena would clutch at him every couple of seconds and plead with him to stop. Even a little speed drew a request to slow down. Eventually she announced that she did not like bike rides at all.
Saif’s response was simple and, in hindsight, very funny:
“Then why are we on this bike?”
The studio audience and Bachchan both laughed. Saif added that the memory made him pause and think there might have been something more to their time together, even if Kareena never liked the bike.
Why this early-days story still works
Years after Tashan brought them together on screen, Saif and Kareena remain one of Bollywood’s most watched couples. This anecdote landed because it is low-stakes and human: a first outing that did not go as planned, and a man who could joke about it instead of pretending it was perfect.
