With Jee Le Zaraa (roughly translates to “Let’s live a bit”), a new road movie co-starring Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra Jonas will make a comeback to Hindi films. Farhan Akhtar, the filmmaker-actor, will also make a comeback with Jee Le Zaraa, his first feature since 2011’s Don 2.
Under their Excel Entertainment company, Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani will co-produce Jee Le Zaraa alongside his sister Zoya Akhtar’s Tiger Baby Films. He’ll also collaborate with Zoya and her longtime colleague Reema Kagti on the script.
The film appears to be a spiritual successor to Zoya’s 2011 smash Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, which stars Farhan and Kaif with Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, and Kalki Koechlin and is about three childhood friends who reconnect for a bachelor party/road trip across Spain.
Female protagonists are uncommon in Bollywood, which is a broad term that only refers to the mainstream Hindi film industry. Even more unusual is a film with three (A-list) female leads.
