Alia Bhatt was born in Mumbai, India, on March 15, 1993, to director Mahesh Bhatt and actress Soni Razdan. Because her mother is from the United Kingdom and India does not allow dual citizenship, she possesses British citizenship.

Shaheen Bhatt is her biological sister, and Pooja Bhatt and Rahul Bhatt are her half-siblings. Her paternal uncle is music director Mukesh Bhatt, and her paternal cousins are Emraan Hashmi and Mohit Suri. Alia completed her education at Mumbai’s prestigious Jamnabai Narsee School. Her friends and family dubbed her ‘Aloo’ when she was a kid.

Alia Bhatt has always aspired to be an actress and had no plans to further her education beyond high school. Despite being the daughter of a well-known Indian filmmaker, she wanted to start her career in Bollywood on the strength of her acting abilities, and she quickly made her debut in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year. Bhatt had to shed 16 kgs in three months for her first job.
