Virat Kohli is really the only Indian athlete to make Forbes’ affluent list of the top 100 athletes for 2020. Whenever it comes to public cricketing boards, though, there are certain players who make more money than that of the cricket player.

When we consider about just the highest-paid cricketers inside the world, Indian skipper Virat Kohli is among the first names that comes to mind.

Virat seems to be the only Indian athlete to appear on Forbes’ wealthy list of top 100 athletes in 2020, where he has been presently ranked 66th with such a reported net worth of over 196 crores.

The Indian-run machine has amassed this tremendous fortune thanks to the BCCI’s A+ deal, which pays around seven crores per year.

Ever since 2018 edition, the elegant cricketer has been the highest-paid player in the IPL, receiving 17 crores as from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) every year. He also has a slew of high-profile brand endorsement deals attributable to his massive fan base among young people in India and throughout the world.

Nevertheless, there are several players who receive more money from their national cricket boards than the Indian superstar. Well here’s a list of five players who get paid more for cricket than Indian captain Virat Kohli.

Thanks to that same England Cricket Board’s (ECB) domestic contract structure, which provides hefty pay to its athletes, England’s Test captain Joe Root ranks #1 on the list.

The fact that England prioritises Test cricket is no secret, and as captain of the English team, Root receives £7,00,000 a year (roughly Rs. 7.22 crore) from the cricket board, which is slightly more than Kohli’s 7 crore. In terms of money earned from cricket, this puts him ahead of Kohli.

Jofra Archer of England is ranked second on just this list. Following his outstanding 2019-20 season, the great bowler has become a regular component of the English team throughout all three forms. He has quickly established himself as his team’s go-to bowler in high-pressure situations, as well as the fast bowler has rarely let them down. Whether it was the super over in the 2019 World Cup final against New Zealand, in which he helped England win the coveted trophy for the very first time ever by defending 15 runs, or trouncing arch-rivals Australia during the Ashes, he has done it all.
