Salma Hayek is indeed an actress as well as a movie producer of Mexican and American descent. She began her acting career in Mexico, appearing in the 1989 serial Teresa and the 1995 movie El Callejón de los Milagros (Miracle Alley), for which she was nominated for an Ariel Award. With roles in movies like Desperado (1995), From Dusk till Dawn (1996), Wild Wild West, and Dogma, she catapulted to notoriety (both 1999).

Hayek rose to prominence with her performance as Mexican painter Frida Kahlo in the 2002 historical film Frida, which she co-produced and acted in. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal, making her the first Mexican actress to do so, as well as nods for the Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and British Academy Film Award for Best Actress.

The movie received a lot of positive feedback and has been a critical and economic success.

Hayek was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series after guest-starring inside the ABC television comedy-drama Ugly Betty in 2007. She won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing in a Children/Youth/Family Special for The Maldonado Miracle in 2004. From 2009 through 2013, she also appeared as a guest star on the NBC comedy series 30 Rock. For her part in Beatriz at Dinner, she was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award in 2017.

Grown Ups (2010), Puss in Boots, Grown Ups 2 (2013), Tale of Tales (2015), Sausage Party (2016), The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017), Like a Boss (2020), Eternals, and House of Gucci are among Hayek’s later projects (both 2021).

Hayek has been married to François-Henri Pinault, a French business mogul, since 2009, and they have a daughter together.

From April 7 to June 18, 2006, the Blue Star Contemporary Art Center in San Antonio, Texas, hosted an exhibition called “Solamente Salma” (Spanish for “Only Salma”), which featured 16 portrait paintings of Hayek as the Aztec goddess Itzpapalotl by muralist George Yepes as well as filmmaker Robert Rodriguez.
