Robert Redford Jr. is indeed an actor, director, as well as activist from the United States. Two Academy Awards, a British Academy Film Award, two Golden Globe Awards, the Cecil B. Redford’s television career started in 1960, with a performance on The Twilight Zone in 1962. He first appeared on stage in the late 1950s. For his role in The Voice of Charlie Pont, he received an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor. In Neil Simon’s Barefoot inside the Park, he was most known for playing the pompous newlywed spouse of co-star Elizabeth Ashley’s character. War Hunt was Redford’s first picture.

Inside Daisy Clover (1965), in which he co-starred with Natalie Wood, earned him a Golden Globe nomination for a best new star. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), in which he co-starred with Paul Newman, was a great hit and catapulted him to stardom. With Jeremiah Johnson, he had a critical and box office hit, and in 1973, he had his biggest hit, the blockbuster crime caper The Sting, a reunion with Paul Newman for which he was nominated for an Academy Award; that same year, he also starred opposite Barbra Streisand in The Way We Were, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award. All the President’s Men, a critically praised and popular picture, was a watershed moment for Redford.

Ordinary People (1980), one of the most critically and publicly appreciated pictures of the decade, launched Redford’s career as a filmmaker in the 1980s. He resumed performing as well as acted in Brubaker (1980) and So out of Africa (1985), which was a huge box office hit and earned seven Academy Awards, notably Best Picture. A River Runs Through It, his third movie as a filmmaker, was released in 1992. In 1995, he was nominated for Best Director and Best Picture for Quiz Show. In 2002, he was nominated for a second Academy Award, this time for Lifetime Achievement. He was named a chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur in 2010. Redford has been one of the Sundance Film Festival’s founders.

Redford’s career, just like of many other prominent performers of the 1950s, began in New York City, wherever he worked on stage as well as on television. In a tiny role in Tall Story, he made his Broadway debut, backed by roles in The Highest Tree and Sunday in New York (1961).

Redford has indeed been heavily associated with independent movies until establishing the nonprofit Sundance Institute in Park City, Utah, in 1981. Sundance has given much-needed assistance for independent filmmakers throughout its multiple training programmes and famous film festival. In 1995, Redford and Showtime agreed to launch a 24-hour cable television channel dedicated to independent movies. On February 29, 1996, the Sundance Channel debuted.
