Richard Gere is indeed an actor from the United States. Inside the 1970s, he made his cinematic debut with a supporting role in Looking for Mr Goodbar and a lead role as Days of Heaven (1978). His breakthrough came through his part inside the 1980 movie American Gigolo, which cemented his reputation as a leading man as well as a sex icon. He went on to star in a number of movies, including An Officer as well as a Gentleman, The Cotton Club, Pretty Woman, Sommersby (1993), Primal Fear (1996), Runaway Bride (1999), I’m Not There (2007), Arbitrage (2012), Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer, and Norman: The Moderate Rise as well as Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer. Richard Tiffany Gere was born on August 31, 1949, in Philadelphia, as the first son as well as the second child to Doris Gere, a housewife.

His father had planned to have been a preacher when he was younger. Gere grew up in Syracuse, New York, as just a devout Methodist. George Lane Gere (1848–1932), his paternal great-grandfather, altered the spelling of his surname from “Geer” to “Gere.” George, another of his relatives, had been an Englishman from Heavitree who arrived inside the Connecticut Colony in 1638. Gere’s parents both were Mayflower progenitors, and he had Pilgrim ancestors including John Billington, William Brewster, Francis Eaton, Francis Cooke, Degory Priest, George Soule, as well as Richard Warren among his relatives. He graduated from North Syracuse Central High School in 1967, wherein he excelled in gymnastics, music, and trumpet. He was a gymnastics scholarship student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, majoring in philosophy, but he dropped out after two years and did not graduate.

Gere presided over the 19th Moscow International Film Festival’s Jury in 1995.
