Heath Ledger had been an actor as well as a music video director from Australia. Ledger relocated to the United States in 1998 to advance his movie career after appearing in various Australian television and film productions in the 1990s. Ten Things I Hate About You (1999), The Patriot (2000), A Knight’s Tale, Monster’s Ball (2001), Lords of Dogtown (2005), Brokeback Mountain (2005), Candy (2006), I’m Not There (2007), The Dark Knight (2008), as well as the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus were among his twenty movies, the latter two of which were released after his death. He also desired to become a movie director and create and direct music videos.

Ledger earned the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actor as well as the Australian Film Institute’s Best International Actor Award for his depiction of Ennis Del Mar in Brokeback Mountain; he was the very first actor to win the latter award posthumously. He was nominated for such BAFTA Award for Best Actor, the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor, the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor, as well as the Academy Award for Best Actor, making him the eighth-youngest candidate inside the category there at the time.

 He received the 2007 Independent Spirit Robert Altman Award for the movie I’m Not There, which has been influenced by that of the life as well as music of American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, well with rest of the ensemble cast, the director, and the casting director. Inside the movie, Ledger played Robbie Clark, a fictitious actor who represents many parts of Dylan’s life and image.

On January 22, 2008, Ledger died as a consequence of an unintentional pharmaceutical overdose. Ledger had just finished filming his part as the Joker in The Dark Knight a few months before his death. The Dark Knight was in post-production at the time of his death, and he was filming The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, in which he was reprising his role as Tony. His death had an impact on The Dark Knight’s future marketing.

His portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight received widespread recognition and appreciation from both fans and reviewers. For his performance on The Dark Knight, Ledger garnered multiple posthumous honours, including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, a Best Actor International Award at the 2008 Australian Film Institute Awards, and the 2008 Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actor.
