Amy Adams

Amy Adams is indeed an actress from the United States. She has been in three yearly lists of the world’s highest-paid actresses, and is known for both humorous and serious parts. Throughout her career, she has garnered several awards and nominations, including a Screen Actors Guild Award and two Golden Globe Awards, as well as six Academy Awards and seven British Academy Film Awards nominations.

Adams was born in Vicenza, Italy, to American parents and reared in Castle Rock, Colorado. She studied ballet but decided that musical theatre was a better fit for her when she was 18 years old. She worked in dinner theatre from 1994 to 1998 and made her feature film debut in the dark comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous as a supporting character (1999). She made guest appearances on television after coming to Los Angeles and took on “mean girl” roles in low-budget feature pictures.

Her first notable part had been in Steven Spielberg’s biography Catch Me If You Can (2002), following which she went unemployed for just a year. Her breakthrough came in the indie comedy movie Junebug (2005), wherein she played a chatty pregnant lady and garnered her first Academy Award nomination.

Adams’ first significant hit as a leading woman came with the musical fantasy film Enchanted (2007), wherein she played a happy fairy tale princess-type role. She then went on to play naive, optimistic ladies in films like Doubt (2008) and The Fighter (2010), all of which received favourable reviews, as well as heavier roles in the sports picture The Fighter (2010) and the psychological drama film The Master (2012). She debuted as Lois Lane in the DC Extended Universe’s superhero movie in 2013.

She received two Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her roles as a seductive con artist in American Hustle (2013) and as painter Margaret Keane in the biographical film Big Eyes (2014). Further accolades came from her roles as a linguist in Arrival (2016), an art gallery owner in Nocturnal Animals (2016), a self-harming reporter in the HBO miniseries Sharp Objects (2018), and Lynne Cheney in the satire film Vice (2018).

Adams’ theatre credits include Baker’s Wife in the Public Theater’s staging of Into the Woods in 2012. She was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most important people in the world in 2014, and she was also included in Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list.
