Did you also know that India receives a significant number of visitors from Bangladesh? Whereas the number of international tourists visiting that country has increased in recent years, the number of tourists visiting Pakistan has decreased.
Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State for Tourism, provided a country-by-country breakdown of international visitor arrivals for such top 60 nations in a written response to a Lok Sabha question.
From 8.8 million in 2016 to 10.04 million in 2017, and 10.56 million in 2018, the number of international tourists visiting the country grew. Throughout these three years, foreign exchange profits have also increased. Tourism generated $22.92 billion in forex profits in 2016, $27.31 billion in 2017, and $28.58 billion in 2018.
Within the previous two years, Bangladesh has attracted nearly one out of every five foreign visitors. In 2016, around 1.38 million foreign visitors visited Bangladesh. In 2017 as well as 2018, these figures were 2.15 million and 2.25 million, respectively.
Tourists from the United States have been steadily rising in India over the years. In the previous three years, the United States has attracted the second-largest number of international visitors. From 1.27 million in 2016 to 1.37 million in 2017, and 2.25 million in 2018, the number of tourists from the United States has climbed. The United Kingdom came in third place.
Pakistani tourists have decreased in number from 1.04 lakh in 2016 to 44,266 in 2017 and 41,659 in 2018. In terms of tourist arrivals, Argentina had the lowest share as among 60 nations studied.
