Which city is known as Mini Mumbai in India?

Mumbai

Indore has indeed been named India’s cleanest city, following by Bhopal, the state capital, in a double honour for Madhya Pradesh. Indore received this honour for such second time in a row as from Union Ministry of Urban Affairs. The Indore district plays a crucial role in Madhya Pradesh’s development, accounting for almost 35% of the state’s GDP. Indore would be to Madhya Pradesh what Mumbai will be to India.

Indore has traditionally been the number one city in central India, catering towards the demands of the rich and powerful, despite being a tier-two metropolis. Indore is among India’s nine largest cities with the highest economic growth.

When Indore was named the country’s cleanest city on Wednesday, the credit was formally attributed towards the municipal corporation’s efforts.

However, Manish Singh, the previous commissioner who was moved a month ago, has no reservations in claiming, “It is the urban attitude of the local people and the rich history that helped us achieve this.” During Singh’s three-year tenure, he ensured that the city’s facilities and cleaning system ran well.

As an axis between political functionaries as well as a large employee base, Singh promoted numerous changes in the city, where Patrick Geddes, a Scottish biologist who excelled as a town designer, developed the first master plan in 1917.

The city was the first to implement a BRTS system in 2007, even before Ahmedabad did so in 2009. “In Indore, we are open to trying anything new and beneficial to us. Abhay Shahasrabuddhe, an organic food and agricultural entrepreneur, says, “We never hesitate to adapt new techniques of ‘growth.'”

Singh had previously held the position of municipal commissioner in Bhopal before he was sent to Indore three years ago. “It was a struggle for us to get the municipal services back on track.” Despite the fact that the city attracted investments worth over Rs 18,000 crore, residents remained dissatisfied with the civic facilities. Property values remained unchanged. “The administration was concerned about all of these concerns because it wanted to promote Indore as a model city,” says Singh, who is now the collector of Ujjain.
