Hollywood Bowl

The Hollywood Bowl is indeed an amphitheatre in Los Angeles, California’s Hollywood Hills district. In 2018, Rolling Stone magazine rated it as one of the top ten live music venues inside the United States.

The band shell, a remarkable collection of concentric arches which adorned the site since 1929 to 2003 before even being supplanted by a larger version beginning with the 2004 season, is by far the most famous feature of the Hollywood Bowl. To the northeast, its shell is placed it against Hollywood Hills as well as the renowned Hollywood Sign.

The contour of the concave slope into which the amphitheatre is cut is referred to as the “bowl.” The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s summer home, as well as hundreds of musical events are held each year with the Bowl, which is controlled by that of the County of Los Angeles.

It’s west of the (old) French Village, at 2301 North Highland Avenue. It’s about a mile (1.6 km) north of Hollywood Boulevard as well as about a mile (1.6 km) as from Hollywood/Highland Metro Rail station. It’s just next to US Route 101.

In 1919, William Reed as well as his son H. Ellis Reed were assigned to find an appropriate spot for outdoor performances by members of the newly founded Theatre Arts Alliance, led by Christine Wetherill Stevenson. The Reeds selected Bolton Canyon’s ‘Daisy Dell,’ a natural amphitheatre, shaded canyon, as well as popular picnic site famed because of its natural acoustics as well as close to downtown Hollywood. The Community Park and Art Association, led by F.W. Blanchard at the time, was the first one to start construction on the Bowl.

Hollywood High School’s production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night was among the first at the Bowl. On November 11, 1921, the Women’s World Peace Concert was held. Another of the bowl’s first significant events was the Sunrise Service, which went held on November 11, 1921. The Bowl formally opened on July 11, 1922, with both the construction of the very first genuine stage, which consisted of little beyond wooden platforms as well as canvas.
