With its remarkable reach, Bollywood has sustained its place because of its language, its culture and the authenticity with which the filmmakers have contributed their blood, sweat and tears. The list of Top 20 Best Hindi Movies Ever made in Bollywood goes this way-

1. Mother India (1957)

The movie Mother India was nominated for the academy awards.  The film known for its cultural &patriotic significance is one of the classic Bollywood movies ever made.

2. Mughal-E-Azam (1960)

The movie starring Dilip Kumar, Madhubala and Prithviraj Kapoor was one of the most expensive movies at that time. This love saga till date holds a significant importance in the Hindi cinema & old hindi movies.

3. Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962)

This movie based on a novel was highly appreciated by the audiences and critics. In fact, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam was featured in TIME magazine’s ‘All-Time Best 100 Movies’ list which is a huge achievement for our Bollywood Industry.

4. Waqt (1965)

One of the greatest movie of all times. The film is directed by the legend Yash Chopra. The film is known for some remarkable performances by actors like Sunil Dutt, Shashi Kapoor & Balraj Sahni.

5. Guide (1965)

Considered among the ” Best Bollywood Classics “, Film Guide is one heck of a remarkable contribution to the Indian Cinema Industry. The movie was made in the Bilingual languages of English and Hindi. The English version of the film was showcased in the Cannes Film Festival.

6.  Bobby (1973)

The teenage love genre in Bollywood was first introduced by this movie. The debut film of both Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia, the film was appreciated both by the critics and audiences.

7. Garm Hawa (1973)

The movie that focused on the post partition period, brought to light many relatable events in the Indian history, one of them being the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

8. Sholay (1975)

Sholay belongs to the ultimate list of the iconic old Bollywood movies. Besides being one of the highest gross earning films of all time, Sholay ran in theatres for five years!

9.  Golmaal (1979)

The comedy entertainer is still one of the benchmarks in the Bollywood Industry. Its song is super popular even today “Golmaal hai bhai sab Golmaal hai”.

10. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983)

The film based on the widespread corruption in the Indian Politics. At the time of its release the film won hearts and even today has a special place for being a film way ahead from its time.

11. Masoom (1983)

An adaptation of Erich Segal’s novel ‘Man, Woman and Child, this debut film of Shekhar Kapur the movie went on to win many awards and was one of the best films of its time.

12. Saraansh (1984)

The debut of actor Anupam Kher, who played a 60-year old retired headmaster, discovered the lonesomeness Kher and his wife (played by Rohini Hattangadi) after the departure of their only son.

13. Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988)

Hum Aapke Hai Koun became a standard for family dramas to come. A very good example is current trending “Tarak Mehta ka Oolta Chasma”.

16. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)

This characteristic love story starring the timeless couple Shahrukh Khan and Kajol redrafted the rules of romance in Hindi cinema.

17. Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

This romantic comedy, directed by then newcomer Farhan Akhtar, was a revitalizing, truthful take on bond and affection.

18. Lagaan (2001)

Directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar, Set in India in the late-1800s, the local British rulers are imposing excessively high taxes on the local population. One of the local villagers has a run-in with the senior British officer, resulting in a cricket match between the British and the villagers. If the villagers win, they don’t have to pay taxes for three years. If they lose, they have to pay three times their usual taxes.

19. Swades (2004)

The first and the only Indian movie that had the privilege to get shot inside the NASA Research center, Swades was based on the real-life story of an NRI couple.

20. 3 Idiots (2009)

I wonder that how can this film not make it to this list of Top 20 Best Hindi Movies Ever made. Two friends are searching for their long-lost companion. They revisit their college days and recall the memories of their friend who inspired them to think differently, even as the rest of the world called them idiots. The film is a total classic.
