For Sony Pictures, Hollywood artist Shawn Mendes is poised to voice the eponymous character of the classic children’s book Lyle, Lyle Crocodile.
The 23-year-old popstar will voice the main character Lyle in Sony’s highly anticipated cinematic adaptation of the classic children’s book Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, according to a recent report in Deadline. Along with Shawn Mendes, the film also stars Javier Bardem, Constance Wu, and Winslow Fegley.
Lyle, the happiest crocodile any home has ever had, lives in New York City with the Primm family, helping them with everyday tasks and playing with neighbours’ kids, based on the classic children’s book by Bernard Waber published in 1965.
Everything is well until one day a neighbour insists on putting Lyle in a zoo. “Mr. Grumps and his cat, Loretta, despise crocodiles, and Lyle’s attempts to persuade them to change their minds seem to backfire. The hero, and buddy, beneath the giant crocodile smile will require all of Lyle’s charm — and guts,” the synopsis states.
Will Speck and Josh Gordon are set to direct the picture, which is based on a Will Davies script. Along with Hutch Parker, the directors are producing the feature picture. Hutch Parker Entertainment’s Dan Wilson is executive producing, and Will Speck & Josh Gordon’s Kevin K. Vafi is executive producing.
Executive producers for the film are Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Shawn Mendes, Ari Afsar, Emily Gardner Xu Hall, Mark Sonnenblick, and Joriah Kwamé collaborated on the film’s original music. The film will be released on November 18, 2022.
On the job front, following a Billboard chart-topping career, this picture would be the Grammy-nominated pop star’s first appearance in a major studio film. The fourth album by Shawn Mendes, ‘Wonder,’ debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart. In 2019, he was nominated for a Grammy for “Seorita” with singer and ex-girlfriend Camila Cabello for best pop duo/group performance.
