Hayes Davenport and Sean Clements broadcast the weekly comic podcast Hollywood Handbook. In most episodes, Davenport, Clements, as well as a guest dispense advise, tell tales, and participate in portions, all in a humorous, absurdist style. Donald Glover, Ellie Kemper, Aubrey Plaza, Kumail Nanjiani, Nick Kroll, Patton Oswalt, Nick Wiger, and Sharon Horgan have all been guests.
Clements and Davenport met while working on the FOX show Allen Gregory, where they immediately became friends and co-founded the Earwolf Network’s Reality Show Show podcast.
The podcast featured the duo, as well as reality stars like Survivor champion John Cochran and comedians like Paul F. Tompkins as well as Anders Holm, critiquing reality series like The Challenge, World’s Worst Tenants, and Splash in a lighthearted manner.
Clements and Davenport cancelled the Reality Show Show after 39 episodes due to the show’s modest audience as well as the hosts’ developing indifference in the notion. The debut episode of Hollywood Handbook, with guest Jake Johnson, was published two weeks later, on October 8, 2013.
The hosts play very successful versions of themselves in Hollywood Handbook, describing the podcast as “an insider’s guide to kicking butt and dropping names in the red-carpet-lined back alleys of this profession we call entertainment.” Clements and Davenport would undertake parts like “The Teaser Freezer,” in which they would remark on a trailer for an upcoming film, followed by an interview with the guest that featured audience questions during the “Popcorn Gallery” portion. However, in recent years, the programme has taken on a more looser framework, with fewer scripted parts and more interactions with guests and Earwolf personnel.
