Janhvi Kapoor Channels Kashmiri Heritage in Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla at TIFF

Marking her presence at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Janhvi Kapoor arrived in a deeply evocative ensemble styled by Rhea Kapoor, celebrating the enduring artistry of Kashmiri textile traditions.

Kapoor wore a resham saree by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, drawing inspiration from the intricate patterns and rich tones of jamavar—a centuries-old weave historically associated with royalty and Kashmiri craftsmanship. The saree, delicately embroidered with silk threads, embodied the fine artistry that the designer duo is known for.

Adding a layer of legacy and personal touch, the look featured an antique jamavar shawl from Rhea Kapoor’s private collection. The shawl, trimmed with handmade silk resham tassels, served as both a stylistic and cultural bridge—bringing the past into the present with grace.

In a standout element of the ensemble, Kapoor wore a vintage men’s jamavar jacket from the 1980s, upcycled and re-embroidered by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, showcasing a sustainable approach to fashion that reveres traditional craftsmanship while embracing contemporary relevance.

Elevating the narrative further was the choice of accessory: a silver earring inspired by the Kashmiri dejhur, traditionally worn by Kashmiri Pandit brides. Here, the ornament was reimagined as a modern homage to heritage, adding symbolism and depth to the look.

Together, the carefully curated elements of Kapoor’s appearance told a story of revival, preservation, and reinterpretation—fittingly showcased on a global platform.blended tradition with modernity, making a powerful style statement on the international stage.
